Thank you to all who voted for this Hub in the HubNuggets contest. It brings me great joy to know there are people out there who value the information and content I produce, and makes me even more happy to know this Hub is a winner of a HubNuggets Accolade. -- WritingItUp (1/4/2012)

Who goes to Orlando and doesn't stop by the Disney theme parks?! When each theme park can cost you $85 and up per person, those are some choices people make. And that's all okay because there are still plenty of entertaining activities and attractions to do and visit in Orlando.

Consider the following things you can do outside of the Disney theme parks:

  • Downtown Disney
It makes a great location to visit day or night. There are three main points at this location: Pleasure Island, the West Side and the Marketplace. Here you will find restaurants as well as shops for picking up Disney souvenirs. There is also the LEGO store where you can get a real taste of what types of fantastic builds you can create with LEGO pieces. The inside and outside of the store features LEGO builds such as a dragon, Woody from Toy Story to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Downtown Disney also makes a great place for picture taking, especially around the holidays when the place is decked out with holiday decorations, Christmas trees, and more. You can be here for hours without having to spend a dime because parking is also free. And if you enjoy boat rides, complimentary shuttle boat rides are offered between each of the three points.
  • The Boardwalk
The area is known as a village built on water. Find small shops for a bite to eat or for shopping. The Boardwalk is also surrounded by resort hotels, some that are worth going in for a visit, such as the Disney Boardwalk Resort. The Boardwalk is a perfect place for a quiet retreat to relax. Parking is also available for free.
  • WonderWorks
Even if you haven't heard of WonderWorks, if you pass by the building you will be tempted to see what it's all about. The outside building is flipped upside down. When you enter, you'll see the floor has become the ceiling. It's complete with interactive and fun exhibits for children and adults. Highlights include an exhibit where you can experience a 5.3 magnitude earthquake, a hurricane, how it feels to lie on a bed of nails, and much more. General admission is $24.99 per person but you can find a coupon for $2 off in most travel brochures found at hotels. An indoor parking garage is available next door at a reasonable rate.

There are a number of other attractions and activities that can keep the young and adults entertained while in Orlando without having to step foot into any of the theme parks.
